Skyve Elementary Bistro & Bar

Okay, this is a super backdated post. Met up with my girls (about 1.5 months ago?).
We decided to be early birds (oh well, as early as we could la, and we tried), and meet for real brunch. Meaning actually having breakfast around the lunch timing, instead of late afternoon/evening! Hee! What an achievement for night owls like us!

Their cute table mat!

Our truffle fries while waiting for ling.
Heh, ya it's weird for an early morning starters. But heck, the fries isn't oily at all and most importantly, it doesn't taste/smell like petroleum!
I know how some people like truffle fries exactly becos it smells like petroleum, but i don't understand that and i don't know how to appreciate that (a little smell of it is tolerable though).
And the fries that came actually remained crispy even after we finished our mains. Thumbs up!

 photo image_1_zps2790f673.jpeg

Was then trying to keep away from caffeine so I ordered hot choc instead.
With vanilla :)

 photo image_7_zps6bf8c242.jpeg

They place bottles of Fiji on the tables by default. If you're not intending to drink it, just let the waiter know.

With dd, and i know i look like i just woke up.
Which was indeed la, lol.

Skyve Sous Vide Eggs Benedict
 My usual brunch preference.
The eggs ben, served with english muffinstreaky bacon and hollandaise sauce was a hit.
Sides of sautéed wild mushrooms and sweet corn was good too.

 photo image_2_zps06b54772.jpeg

 Ricotta Hot Cakes
With maple syrup, passion fruit butter and roasted almond flakes. Heavenly.
It was served with strawberries instead of bananas that day, so all the better cos i prefer strawberries :p

 photo image_4_zps9a3e1b2a.jpeg

Skyving’ Breakfast
There are choices of overeasy/sunny side up/scrambled/soft poached for the eggs.
Bread can be either wholemeal, sourdough or brioche
Served with wild mushroom fricassee, enlish pork sausage, confit of cherry tomatoes & roasted baby potatoes.
Pretty heavy and I say it would be perfect to share between two girls :)

Waited for D in town before we went for a play at the Esplanade.
My first Huayi play! If I remember correctly :x
And it shown me how much my chinese has deterioriated over the years after my A levels.
Thankfully this play is pretty easy to understand and entertaining (there were moments which I thought I was watching a musical concert).

 photo image_13_zps9cc6e098.jpeg

There were Singlish incoporated into a particular part of the show "Come lah, look look see see" which easily amused the Singaporean audience.
Also, quite a few lines caught my attention but they were in chinese and I can't really type it out properly now.
Below's the official introduction of the play:

Awakening (贾宝玉)
by Edward Lam Dance Theatre (Hong Kong)

"The Chinese literary classic Dream of the Red Chamber receives a modern adaptation for the stage by acclaimed director Edward Lam in Awakening. This powerful re-envisioning features an all-female cast, with celebrated Cantopop singer and actress Denise Ho, taking the final chapter of the classic tale as its starting point.

Having left the mortal world, Jia Baoyu returns to the land of illusions with all his memories lost. Desperate to remember his life, he is allowed to return to the world of the living where his life of love plays out again. His memories gradually return, but he is unable to change anything and can only watch as tragedies unfold before him again and again, leaving him and his loves to the unforgiving hands of fate. Slowly, he begins to understand why he seeks to remember.

Awakening presents a searching portrayal of love and the complexities of life. Since its premiere in Hong Kong in 2011, this work has toured with sold-out stopovers in many cities in Asia and received positive reviews, with Denise Ho’s performance moving many. "

Weekend

Went to office in the morning to clear some stuffs.
I've been having thoughts of living in my office room actually. lol.
Saves the time for me to travel back n forth everyday.

My train buddy got me this as a "room-warming gift", to keep me company when it's quiet, especially on the weekends!

Oink oink, so cute!

My ootd.

Love the loafers I got from GZ some time back!
Extremely comfy and I remember it was cheap too, like sgd10??

And the aotd.

That's one of the rings from the set I bought in Malaysia, from Diva.

Met with M at Harbourfront in the afternoon cos I had some errands to run :/

After I was done with my errands, we went francfranc to source for furnitures.
I want this heart cushion for my sofa next time!

Had tea-break at Carl's Junior.
 Chilli cheese fries.

So much cheese!
Wish they would give more of the gravy too :p

Saw this bag which seems like a good alternative to the Céline nano luggage in yellow, right right??
The mini luggage is too huge for my frame even though it's already a mini :| and the nano luggage in yellow is like sold out.
This alternative is just the right size, and right available in stores!

Sorrie for the blur photo! But anyone knows the exact model name of the bag?
Wanna ask hua jie to get it for me from the US! :D

Started wearing blouse/shirt after i realised i can actually look good/okay in one lol.
neh:

Weekend polka dots shirt (light sky blue)

Not bad right, still managed to look sporty. Hahahaha.

Anyway, it was mainly a trip in to pump petrol.
But we ended up eating ALOT of food!
Shall blog about the food another time.

That is J's head in between us in the pic.

Did some shopping and i got rings!
And 2 neon bracelet/bangles from Diva.
Not sure if they would be cheaper in SG.
Bracelets were RM29 each, rings cost RM39 for a set :)

And, a little real-time update.
M is back from utopia Japan!
It was a short trip for him, and he spent most of his time catching up with his friends in the SUJ and the SGI headquarter.

Drunk on tokyo bananas when he was back.
Hahaha.

Actually we took the photo purposely in a response to his friend's posting on instagram. She happened to post a photo of tokyo bananas just seconds before he called me and said that he'll be bringing some over. Talk about coincidences.
(i had thought he went to pass his bananas around to other girls before me lor wahahaha. okay, i'll try not to sound so crude in future)

He got me a Kaomoji, which is the Japanese version of emoticons/emoji!

ヽ(*・ω・)ノ
kawaii~~!!

(´・ω・`)
Okay, not exactly my style, but it's extremely huggable!
So, it's moving on to squeeze with me on bed.
I need a king size bed soon :(

Follow me on instagram @OYHZ for updates :D

Marugoto Shokudou

Attended restaurant week at Marugoto Shokudou last week.
Was craving for Japanese food and thought, why not try out this new Japanese restaurant?
Besides, M is going Japan next month.. Let him have more Japanese food in Singapore so that he can tell the difference in quality when he gets there! lolol.
Scully after he comes back, he doesn't want to taste the 'bad' (as some of my Japanese friends have commented) Japanese food in Singapore anymore, then nobody to accompany me when I have my sashimi or ramen cravings! :(

OOTD.

 photo image_2_zps27013c81.jpeg

Love my new Michael Kors Hamilton tote!

Marugoto Shokudou is located at AMK.

It's a relatively new restaurant, I think.
And they had a special menu for restaurant week, so yay, makes it even more exclusive than just trying out with cost-savings :)

Appetisers:

Avocado Salmon on Japanese Toast/Ika & Ebiko Roll/Renkon Su (seasoned lotus roots)

 photo image_22_zpsde8776e3.jpeg

 photo image_16_zpsf974ea1d.jpeg

The crispiness of the slight buttery cracker with soft mushy avocado salmon combi sent my taste buds to heaven!

 photo image_32_zps3e12a79b.jpeg

So did the Ika & Ebiko Roll!
It's prawn roe wrapped with squid rings.

 photo image_42_zpsf3c6844a.jpeg

The renkon su was blah. Not a fan of it.

 photo image_52_zpsd2e3daa4.jpeg

The sashimi for the day was pacific flounder.

 photo image_53_zps200cd9f1.jpeg

 photo image3_zps36bbd8fd.jpeg

Supposed to mix everything on the side with the sashimi and dip them into the sauce!

 photo image_13_zps9248536e.jpeg

It was very fresh, and comes with slight crunch when you eat it. And the sauce paired was very unique.
I wonder what sauce it is!

They served the Toro Negima (tuna belly broth) with rice and mushroom sauce.
I don't usually drink soups in Japanese restaurants, be it hot pot or miso soup or whatever cos they tend to be on the saltish side.
But this is so good that I finished the entire bowl (and was actually craving for more :x)

 photo image_63_zpse67d09d0.jpeg

 photo image_82_zps28890557.jpeg

Mains:

Grilled King prawn with Chilean Cod Fish and Pan Seared Scallops

 photo image_72_zps86565bc8.jpeg

 photo image_13_zps22ea97a6.jpeg

The first flavour I tasted was bitterness when I tried the prawn. It's abit overcooked as well. Not good :(
Thankfully the cod fish was more delectable. So much so that I almost finished it despite promising to share it with M. oops.

Wagyu Beef Steak with Truffled Mash and Rocket Salad.

 photo image_14_zps134e5f9e.jpeg

We specially requested it to be medium (the new waiter told us initially that they can only do it medium rare or well done :/) and it tasted divine.
We both love it a lot despite being slightly full already, espeically after all the rice and soups.

Dessert was Japanese Strawberry Yogurt Pudding.
Light and just the right amount of sweetness to top off the scrumptious meal.
