[Review] Origin Superior Coolmax® Latex Pillow

With the added strains on our bodies, due to the less-than-optimal ergonomics wfh spaces most of us may have (improper design of work space / lack of comfy chairs and what's not), I thought it would be good to treat my body better in other aspects as well. That includes getting proper rest at night, especially after a long day of strenous (okay, I'm exaggerating maybe) wfh.

Thus, I was super excited to have the chance to try out the Origin Superior Coolmax® Latex Pillow which topped the chart of 8 Best Comfortable Pillows to Buy in Singapore!

The Origin Superior Coolmax® Latex Pillow offers a responsive Latex foam support and is completed with a removable Tencel fabric pillow cover.

Benefits of Natural Latex:

Latex foam has a denser material as compared to memory foam or fibre. A Latex pillow moulds to the shape of your head which gives you the right level of sleep support. I'm more of a side sleeper, so noticed that this pillow comes with a thicker profile which can follow the natural curvature of the body while sleeping on my side! [Food Delivery] Sushi Delivery Singapore

What a strange period we are living in currently. Where our freedom to dine out is temporarily compromised for the past few months. I certainly appreciate the yummy food delivery services to add some cheer to our cooped-up lives :)

We had a variety of sushi and appetizers/sides to try.

Kani Salad 可児サラダ

First up is the salad which I absolutely loved. Though made up of simple ingredients, the combination of various light flavours of the greens with the salty kani (crab) stick and tobiko (roe) really delights the palate. I like the contrast of the creamy texture of the kani and sauce, against the crunchy vegetables as well.

Chuka Kurage

The jellyfish is on the saltier end, which is probably more suited as a side/snack to go with beers and sakes!

Tako Yaki (5pcs) タコ焼き

The takoyaki balls came with an octopus filling in each, and generously drizzled with Japanese mayonnaise and bonito flakes! This is definitely something I would order again for future deliveries.

Yam Net Sponge Roll (5pcs) ヤムネットスポンジロール

This is not something common at a sushi place I guess? The yam net spring roll reminds me of the chinese tze char yam ring dish, with the "net" deep fried to perfection. The yam has a fragrant scent to it too!

Shrimp Crouton (5pcs) エビクルトン

Give me shrimps anytime. What's more shrimps coated with croutons, deep fried to a golden perfection. Needless to say, they are one of my favourites. 

Also not to worry about the deep frying if you're more health conscious, they were not oily at all I feel, while maintaining the crunch!

Now, let's move on to the sushi, shall we?

Kappa Maki (1 Roll) (V) カッパマキ

Japanese cucumber wrapped in sushi rice and nori (seaweed) never go wrong. This is vegan, by the way. Remember I said there's bound to be something for everyone at the beginning? :)

Champion Floss Maki (8pcs) チャンピオンフロスマキ

A maki made with chicken and floss is something I have not tried before honestly. This fusion sushi roll is quite unique-tasting. The maki has grilled teriyaki chicken matched with crunchy Japanese cucumber, Parmesan and nacho cheeses, wrapped in nori (seaweed) and sushi rice. Then finally topped with savory sweet chicken floss and tobiko (flying fish roe). Share with me your thoughts if you try this! :)

Lastly, we have the california maki, which is an all-time favourite for many people I guess? This sushi roll has a generous serving of sweet kani (crab) stick, crunchy Japanese cucumber, sweet tamago and crab stick are wrapped in nori and sushi rice and coated with a generous serving of savoury sweet tobiko. The Japanese mayonnaise certainly adds a touch of extra creaminess to this maki roll. I finished about the whole roll myself :X

View before I disengaged and my skin gets some pampering..

The treatment started with a quick, warm lavender eye mask pads and that felt so soothing. Kerine was very gentle with her hands and detailed with her service - she explained every step she's doing, which I appreciate alot as I'm someone who prefer to know what's happening.

The facial includes cleansing, toning, serum using a ultra sound equipment, gel-like mask infused with rose essential oil, and all these are applied to both the face and the neck, even shoulders. Definitely no scrimping! The exact skin care and equipment used will be different depending on the treatment you are doing and your personal needs. 

In addition, there's also head and shoulder massage, eyebrow trimming and extraction of blackheads and pimples by hand which I understood from Kerine that it will lessen the impact on the skin. The techniques or services will differ therapist to therapist, so you're interested in mine, look for Kerine Wong! :)

The pampering session ended will a hydrating mask that was left on for about 25mins and I had a good nap in the mean time as well. Definitely melted away my stress that day and so many of my friends and colleagues commented that my skin looked good / radiant (from the hydration) after that.

Amara Hotel Lunar New Year [Media Tasting]

Chinese New Year is a week away, so it’s time to kick start on the catch-ups and gatherings. And, what’s a better way to do them than over good food and drinks? :)

Amara Hotel is ready for a prosperous Lunar New Year with its festive menu and buffets done up for the Year of the Pig.

Eight Treasures Prosperity Yu Sheng $88++ Small / $118++ Large

First thought of Amara Hotel’s Yu Sheng is that, the in-house sauce is more savoury than the usual sweet ones. There’re are generous toppings of abalone slices, salmon sashimi, jellyfish, salmon caviar, fish roe and fried fish skin (yay) that gives the whole yu sheng various levels of texture.

Not surprisingly, the yu sheng is endearingly done in the shape of a pig to celebrate the Year of the Pig.

Braised Pumpkin Soup with Superior Fish Maw

As simple as it may look, this is one of my favourite item from the dinner. The sweetness and creaminess of the pumpkin perfectly contrasted by dried scallops, fish maw and mushrooms. It is a very comforting broth that feels healthy and yet, effectively whets our appetite. 

Soy Baked Sea Perch with Spinach in Bonito Sauce

This is definitely the favourite of the crowd. It got everyone at the table finding out more about sea perch (bite-size fact, it’s from the same family as the cod fish but less oily and thus able to retain any gravy better!)

Braised Pork Ribs in Black Beer

Pork lovers get to try a new creation of Amara’s - Braised Pork Ribs in Black Beer. The pork ribs are certainly very tender and the sauce is unique, though not much of beer taste? Let me know if it’s just me!

Beijing Duck $68++ ala carte

One of the highlight of the dinner was a live station where the peking duck is skillfully carved. Each piece of crispy duck skin and meat is then wrapped with the crepe, cucumber and leek. Of cos, not forgetting a dash of sweet sauce to elevate the taste.

Fragrant Rice with Chinese Sausage and Mushroom

This looks rather unassuming but it came out great in the mouth! Best complemented by Amara Hotel’s Sichuan Style Wok-fried Chicken with Dried Red Chilli (Mala Chicken).

Dessert Buffet

Consisting of some all-time favourites such as the New York Cheesecake, Lychee Charlotte Cake, nonya kuehs, and tartlets, there are also special Chinese New Year cakes as such the Gold Ingot Fruit Cake ($78, 1kg) and Cherry Blossom Sugee Cake ($68, 900g).

The cherry blossoms on the sugee cake is one of the prettiest decor I’ve ever had on a  cake and overall, the fondant isn’t overwhelming thick or sweet, perfect!
