Malaysia Road Trip (3/4) - Penang Part 1/2

Our furthest stop – Penang!
Stayed at Georgetown cos the kaikan is nearby.
We chose Sunway Hotel Georgetown cos it looks pretty good on the website!

*Credits http://georgetown.sunwayhotels.com/

Rate is around S$90+/night.
Pretty decent for a 4* hotel.
Besides, we read online that the hotel has great location (close to everything we wanted) which is an important factor so that we could explore the town on foot instead of driving or taking cab.

Spacious lounge area.

Full length mirror to camwhore :p

Showers, no bath tube :/

View from the room.

True enough, it is smacked right in the middle of the heritage cultural, food and shopping district!
In fact, the new lane food street was right outside the hotel.
We went walking around the town before dinner time.

Komtar Tower
(or Menara Komtar Complex)
Penang's tallest building and the sixth tallest building in Malaysia located in the heart of George Town, dominating the island's skyline.

GAMA Supermarket & Departmental Store Sdn. Bhd.

No. 1, Wisma Gama,
Jalan Dato Kramat,
10150 Georgetown,
Penang, Malaysia.

Campbell street which houses many traditional coffee shops.

Back to the new lane food street!

Our dinner (missing gula melaka chendol and another plate of oyster egg :X)

I love the char kuay tiao most~! <3 <3 *.*

Penang laksa was so-so. We had only a small portion of it :/

Fried oysters egg was good/okay.

Miss the one we had at Malacca :( But this was still good nevertheless!
Yummy huge red beans!
The green chendol was chewy and fragrant, not "artificial" at all.

Oh we had fresh passion fruit juice/drink too.
Perfect choice to wash all the oily food down :p

More of the food street.

The fried oyster stall we ordered from.
(Another stall is better thou, more on it later)

Then we went shopping at the Times Square which is somewhere on the right of the hotel.
Nothing much there except some souvenirs.

And here's M to pretend that we're having our holiday in BKK lol.

Then we went for 2nd round of fried oyster for supper, so sinful right!
This time round, we asked the drinks stall hot auntie (actually she look like owner of the New Sans Lane Coffee Shop at the food street lol) for the best fried oysters egg and she introduced to this!
It's from a tiny stall at the most deserted area of the food street - I forgot to get a photo of that stall, sobs.
If you wanna try, either ask the same "hot mama" auntie (she will be going around taking drinks orders) or look out for the paper plates at the stall ^^

We then spent some time at the Soka Center.

Next up on Penang street murals, Cheong Fatt Tze mansion, seaside near Eastern & Oriental hotel and more food!

  1. Ahhh! Sunway hotel! Always stayed there everytime I go Penang. Missed the breakfast buffet spread there. Eheh. It seems they have a renovation. So pretty!

    1. someone seasoned penang-traveller huh :p
Oh no wonder, shld be renovated. I kept thinking how come the room and facilities seem pristine yet the exterior is old and there are already tons of reviews on it.

  2. Nice article and the hotel is easy access to the hawker stalls! Thanks for sharing.
